The Kitsap Pumas Soccer Club was formed in the summer of 2008. Kitsap is a peninsula directly across Elliott Bay from Downtown Seattle and other major Puget Sound population bases. The club initiated play in the United Soccer League’s Professional Developmental League (PDL) in the Spring of 2009 where they were the 2009 and 2011 NW Divisional Champions, 2011 Western Regional Champions and 2011 National PDL Champions.
The franchise itself was transferred to the region following its life as the USL D1 Seattle Sounders. Future plans are for the franchise to eventually reclaim – via on- and off-field success, D1 status again.
Kitsap’s main cities/towns include: Bremerton, Poulsbo, Silverdale, Port Orchard, Gig Harbor and Bainbridge Island. It is an economically and culturally diverse area highlighted by the fact that it is home to Chief Seattle’s (Seatlh) tribe – the Suquamish – and is his place of burial.
Kitsap is also home to one of the strongest per-capita youth soccer player contingents in the state of Washington with over 8,000 households registered with Washington State Youth Soccer’s District IV.
The Kitsap Soccer Club is owned and operated by Kitsap resident, Mr. Robin Waite. Mr. Waite is a life-long soccer fan, a former co-owner of the USL D1 Seattle Sounders and widely known for his expertise in stadium development and construction. The Kitsap Soccer Club is his first effort as a primary owner.
The Kitsap Soccer Club represents the first fully professional sports franchise in this region.
