Although the 2010 version of the Kitsap Pumas features many new faces, fans will recognize at least one — Steve Phillips. The club's leading scorer and distributor with nine goals and five assists in 2009, Phillips returns for his second season with the Pumas. The beautiful game has brought Phillips across the world, from Bremerton to France to Norway. The 23-year-old was a two-time captain at Whitman College in Walla Walla and led the club in scoring as a sophomore, junior and senior. A fan of all music and the work of Russian author Nikolai Gogol, Phillips spends his free time working on art projects, painting, mountain biking, reading, hiking, and talking with friends. What some people may not know about the scorer they call "Spyder" is that his right leg is shorter than his left. Phillips would be an astronaut if he weren't playing soccer, and the highlight of many of his days is defeating teammate Nik Besagno in post-practive juggling competitions.
